Brewed using only the very finest English ingredients. Our beers are all named after collie dogs, farm animals, local area and the odd family member.

The beers have won awards including, CAMRA Regional Awards, SIBA Regional and National Awards, and a Bronze award in the Taste of North East England. Nel’s Best, our best selling ale, has been one of 8 finalists in the UK Champion Beer of Britain Awards.

Auld Hemp
3.8% abv

The first beer brewed at High House Farm is this fine amber coloured traditional bitter with a fresh malty aroma. It is a true session beer that delivers a highly rewarding drink. Because it is, "The Original" High House Farm beer it has a unique and unmistakable flavour all of its own.

Matfen Magic
4.8% abv

A brown ale, hopped with a combination of Fuggles and Brambling Cross.This traditional premium ale has a beautiful aroma of blackberries and autumn fruits, with malty and chocolate overtones.

Nel's Best
4.2% abv

Goldings Hops blended with the finest English malt produces this golden coloured best bitter, very pleasant to drink, not overly bitter and easy on the pallet. Serious ale drinkers will enjoy all this full bodied ale has to offer and it is no surprise that word is spreading fast throughout the real ale fraternity.

Seasonal Ales

Anniversary Ale
3.5% ABV

A dark ruby mild, with a lovely fruity aroma and a hint of caramel. A real easy drinking session ale! Spring & Summer only.

Sundancer
3.6% ABV

A sunshine ale, this golden brew is a thirst quenching beer, packed with flavours of summer berries with a pleasant biscuit finish.

Pullet Please
3.7% ABV

A pale golden refreshing ale with a delicate grapefruit nose and a crisp dry finish. An easy drinking bitter.

Black Moss
4.3% ABV

Named after a much loved sheep-dog , this is a robust full bodied porter with a lightly roasted aroma and a smooth bitter chocolate finish.

Lizzie’s Dimples
4.0% ABV

Created in celebration of Heather & Gary’s daughter's 21st birthday. A dark golden bitter with a delicate slightly spiced aroma and an almost sweet finish.

Ferocious Fred
4.8% ABV

An almost black “extra” porter, velvet smooth with a pleasing bitter sweet finish, and a thick creamy tan head. Named after our grumpy bull Fred.

Speciality Ales

Nettle Ale
4.5% ABV

This ale can only be produced in the Spring, when the nettles on the farm are at the perfect stage to be picked. Based on a 14th century recipe, this ale is supposed to help the common cold and gout!

Top Tup

An amber coloured beer with a fruity apricot nose, with a real thirst quenching summer best bitter. Named after Gordon, our farm ram.

Scotty's Forst
5.0% ABV

Created in autumn 2009, to celebrate Heather and Gary Scott’s new tenure of the brewery. This is a tawny pale ale with a smooth, almost sweet slightly spiced aroma, a velvet texture and a delicate caramel finish.

Red Shep
4.0% ABV

A copper coloured best bitter, with a melon/orange nose and a hit of spice. Lovely berry flavour

Farmer's Pride
4.2% ABV

This ale is a golden full bodied beer with a hoppy nose and a pleasant lemon/grapefruit aroma. Occasional ale, please call for availability

Cyril the Magnificent
5.5% ABV

Named after our black and white farm cat Cyril, this award winning ale is a Dunkel Weisse - a German wheat beer. An occasional ale, please call for availability.

Lily Brewster
4.5% ABV

Brewed for the birth of Lily, Steve and Sally’s baby daughter, this ale is a pale golden wheat beer, with a full bodied citrus taste. Brewster is the medieval term for a female brewer! An occasional ale, please call for availability.

Chef's Waata

An ale to celebrate our chefs (Heather & Gary's Son) 21st Bithday! Brewed using sovereign and progress hops, this ale is a full bodied bitter.

IFy'S Brew
